Approximately fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior representative stated the attack left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
