19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hard court from spring of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an improved serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended four initial chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
